Physical Therapy Approach

The structural needs of the patient may include things like the evaluation and treatment of muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments, nervous system components and connective tissue systems. This is done through the use of manual physical therapy, which is a hands-on approach to integration of systems working together. The hands on provides guidance and encourages movement while treating the individual needs of each person.
Each patient also has functional needs. The ultimate goal of every physical therapy encounter is to achieve or restore optimal levels of pain-free function. Functional needs include the ability to accomplish various tasks of everyday life. Examples could include such things as the ability to lift your head, roll, crawl, stand, walk, run, get dressed, bend, lift, reach, work and play. We also believe in educating the patient and empowering them to achieve optimal health and ability.

Structural treatment techniques may include:

  • Muscle Energy Technique
  • Joint Mobilization
  • Strain/Counterstrain
  • Myofascial Release(direct/indirect)
  • Cranial/Craniosacral Therapy
  • Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT)
  • Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF)

Functional treatment techniques may include:

  • Stretching
  • Strengthening
  • AROM/AAROM/PROM
  • Balance/Coordination Training
  • Endurance Training
  • Functional Education/Re-education
  • Implementation of an Individualized Home Exercise Program

Some aspects of the functional component of your treatment will include spending time in our fully equipped gym performing exercises with your physical therapist or with a PT aide who can assist you in implementing the exercise plan established for you by your therapist.
